Not to "Bawk"…But Gray Charles Had Me at Hello

chickentruck.jpgI was going to go to bed early last night…and not put up a post for y’all to have first thing this morning…but something was itching my brain, and it wouldn’t let me rest.

So I sat down at my little desk and decided to mull over a few things one last time before hitting the pillow.

I read Gray’s top post about why we were rerouted to his site when we tried to log on to He explained that it’s because of his business deal with Taylor Hicks.

Then I read the post again.

I thought about Tuesday’s insanity of “to puzzle or not to puzzle” and how that frenzy spilled over into Monkbotland.

I was drawn to Gray’s explanation about Taylor’s people (which now includes Gray) creating “a destination website for the fan base” so Taylor can “continue communicating with his fans.”

I scratched my head with one hand, twisted a strand of hair with the other, and scrunched my face in even deeper thought.

Something Shrew wrote yesterday about the behavior of chickens kept creasing my brain. Cooped up chickens, she wrote, will follow a person with grain… even if that person is only perceived by the chickens to have grain.

Chickens in a coop…following the perceived grain…destination… insanity…rerouted…business deal.

My mind was spinning.

I know Gray is a good guy…and I trust him.

I strongly believe Taylor is a good guy…and I want to trust him…if for no other reason than his association with Gray.

I’m very pleased and thrilled with the collaboration between the two of them and their collective intelligence forming a “strategic mission statement.”

Then it hit me…”Jerry Maguire.”

(Sorry to change analogies mid-stream, but when you’re as sleep-deprived as I have been over the past week, your mind rambles.)

The scary part of all of this is the involvement of “multiple entities…J-Records, The Firm, Music Today” along with Gray and Taylor. This is a business deal…with corporations…not just with a handshake over the table.

Jerry Maguire: I’m still sort of moved by your “My word is stronger than oak” thing.

Since I first began to post on Gray’s site, I’ve felt both a belonging and a sense of ownership (justifiably or not). Now that the site is ensconced in this corporate arrangement…I’m afraid of losing both my belonging and my ownership…as I and other fans are rounded up from all corners of the Internet to be monitored and grain fed (I had to bring the analogy full circle…certainly you understand.)

Dicky Fox: The key to this business is personal relationships.

I’m not a fan of big business. I don’t trust it. I don’t think it has the people’s best interests at heart…it’s just about the money.

I know you’re expecting me to quote Rod Tidwell here but…out of respect for Cuba Gooding, Jr. and because it doesn’t really apply…I refuse to.

I know. I know. I’m a glass-half-empty type of gal. I’m a cynic…a pessimist who should focus on all the great things this union will provide.

But I can’t help myself.

I find myself wanting to caution Gray and Taylor…I don’t want the big wigs to “shoplift the pootie” when comes to the fans.

Nor do I want Taylor or Gray besotted or hurt in any of this…’cause they’re “my ambassadors of quawn, man.”

I hope all this makes as much sense as it did when I wrote it…half asleep and with a killer headache.

I can’t wait to read y’all’s thoughts.

Remember…constructive comments are Monkbot-a-licious.

P.S. I got all my Monkbot stuff in the mail today…can’t wait to put the bumper sticker on my car and drive around wearing my hat, both shirts at once, and my button. Talk about falling prey to commercialism. Ha.

    First Great topic!

Interesting take on the big mojo stealing corporation, but Like Jerry McShowMETheMoney…the key to that was you can play in the big boy arena with the personal relationship focus. Is it harder…hell yeah…are the rewards sometimes lost in the revenue chassing sometimes. But when someone stands up and says, I don’t want to loose touch with my fans and means it, they can keep true to those words. Look at the mega-venture that Margaritaville is…Resorts, Manatees, webpage like a blog-ish format, Sirius radio station and big label record deals. It can happen…and it can be fair and revenue positive.

Now, I know I am a glass half full person…but I believe if Taylor has the will and great people like Gray and loyal fans to support him in his venture…the revenue will be there and the big-mega-corporations will be sated.

But what do I know…I am just an ass with brass

  2. double d Says:

Ok…if you’ve been paying attention to some of my rants, er posts, you’ll notice a couple of themes that play nicely here…

1.) …to thine own self be true..” Mr. Shakespeare was very profound, yes? It’s a reminder to always be true to who you are, where you come from and what got you there. Honestly, I cautioned back in April that Taylor would have to really work at not being “sucked into” the fame vortex. So far, he has pleasantly surprised me in “keeping it real” except for the occaisional blonde and Hyde…but hey, there’s no Marty’s in L.A. I think that tapping Gray is a continuance of Taylor “keeping it real”.

2.) This world is a greedy place. Fame and success will suck the soul out of people and they will do things they never thought they would just to provide a better life for their family, have a second home, send a kid to Harvard, whatever. I don’t believe that anyone working in big business is doing their life’s passion. It’s a necessity…a means to an end. Taylor is blessed to be doing something he loves…as is Gray. I just wish he could quit the day job….but alas, how would he pay the Disney World bill? If he can demonstrate continued success, I believe it will come. And you can only make lasting change by working it from the inside, one small change at a time.

A business deal? Sure. But that doesn’t mean you can’t bet true to yourself…why do you think that I asked the question of Taylor, “Do you plan on hiring people from real life to work for/with you?” I mean, he’s got Jeff up there, right? He’s worked out a deal with Gray, right? Remember, he has SOUL Power, but he doesn’t have SOLE Power, yet…and Gray, I’m not worried about at all. I was at first, but I’m not now. He’s wicked smart and he’s committed to Taylor and he’s a “normal” guy. (Did I just say normal?)

Anyway, I read this as all good. It’s in Gray’s best interest to have a real deal and not a handshake. You got to get them to sign on the line. Otherwise, they can change things on a whim.

I leave you with the remainder of the Shakespeare line from Hamlet…

“And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou can not then be false to any man.”

  3. TKls2myhrt Says:

I had the exact same thoughts as I read the post over at GrayCharles. “You mean that you are becoming one of “them”…the big bad music industry we’ve been bashing at times???”

My suspicion was tempered by my knowledge of who GC has been over these months (reliable, trustworthy, etc) and how Taylor Hicks has demonstrated his reliability and trustworthiness to throughout the show and tour.

Remember that big business is born of small businesses that become successful. Taylor was a little business that became a big business. He’s not 19 or 22…he’s 30 and has already proven himself to us, so I’ll go on trusting that the relationship (both Taylor and big business, as well as GC and big business) will remain true to the music. If not, you and I both know that the fans will not follow.

  4. Shrewspeaks Says:

Okay, I did a little research this am (Sorry DD…forgive me any faux pas that I am sure I made)

But I went to (too hurried to get the hotlink thing going)

Well, check out the fan club side…Click on John Mayer’s (blogish)…and looky who is labeled as new…Ryan Adams…which is hysterical when you click on his cause it opens with “Awe shit, we’ve got a website” too funny…

Anyway, I need to look deeper into this…but…looks like “official” and “fan” can co-exist…sybiotic-like and all. I don’t know if this adds to the discussion, but I though I’s throw it out there.

  5. SHrewspeaks Says:

However…there is an entry fee to join any of them…John Mayer’s is approx $25…hmmm?

I have hit GRay’s donation bar a few times…and was a paid memeber for the ParrotHead Union…I would would you?

  6. double d Says:

    In a heartbeat.

  7. Says:

I did have some of the same thoughts. And it occurred to me that ALL those fans that have never been to gray’s site, but have been checking relentlessly are now going to end up with us at gray’s. The family will grow larger. With the assorted strange aunts, uncles and cousins in tow. That’s going to be interesting.

I have felt some pangs of ownership, too. We have “charter members” at our church who will throw their presumed weight around to get things done their way in the name of ownership…and it always comes off as demanding and self centered. So, I’m relinquishing my “rights” and my sense of ownership in this deal and letting things be what they will be.

Remember, we are dealing with THE Taylor Hicks who said “You can deal with it. I’m not singing that music” and walked out when he was pressed to do something he wasn’t comfortable with. That stubborn streak won’t dissolve over night, I don’t think.

    Chin up…it’s all good.

  8. nolagirl Says:

Blame it on my “youth,” perhaps naivety, or just maybe a glass-more-than-half-full attitude, but I didn’t have one doubtful thought or moment of let down, disappointment or worry when I read this. Like DD said, better to make it “official” then rely soley on the good ol’ boy handshake and cause more problems later down the road. This is “the big time,” so handshakes are too much on shaky ground, I would think.

Side note: DD, I noticed the comment about Hyde. Taylor said in the Vibe article how much he does want to be seen as “hip.” Hyde = Hip. (besides, I think you are right. No Marty’s or Flora Bama-esque joints around the neighborhood he’s in now)

  9. shelley Says:

Shrew I think this discussion is VERY relevant and pinpoints the gray area I was having problems with…keeping the soul of the fansite (the most awesome fansite in the world) while “merging” it with an “official” site.

I want this to work…so, are we (Gray) the little feeder fish on the belly of the whale? And who exactly IS the whale?

About “would I pay to be a fan”…um, no. I’ll support a site like Gray’s because he’s an “everyday joe” who’s running this thing while running his life. Would I pay to JOIN a site that has the backing of a big business? Hell NO! They’re going to get my money at concerts, downloads, CDs, t-shirts, etc.

  10. shelley Says:

susieq3c said, “The family will grow larger. With the assorted strange aunts, uncles and cousins in tow.”

Why do I keep thinking of that old expression…”family is like fish…after three days…they start to stink.”

  11. double d Says:

Shelley, I guess I’m more “compromised” as I’ve learned that you’ve got to “go along to get along” sometimes.

So, if Gray was offered the opportunity to run the sight (let’s say in the same fashion) as a full-time paying gig, then you’d not partake? Because he’s getting paid by Taylor or The Firm or Music Today? Even if the content didn’t change? Sorry, but I think that’s throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Why don’t we just wait and see if there are changes and just what they might be. At this point, Gray has said temporary and I think that’s just what it is. There may be a transition to the “professionals” at some point but I personally think that will cost Taylor readership. Gray is in a similar position that Taylor is in. People like plain, simple, honest. Take that away and the people go away too. THAT is the bargaining chip.

  12. Shrewspeaks Says:

Okay…When I click around the other fan sites…some seem to be like Gray’s grown out of a passion others do seem “manufactured”.

Now to fee or not to fee…Before was a blog by a Joe, so donate at will seemed fair…Now we are getting advanced tidbits, can’t keep getting those for free. Call me a capitalist whore, but the “official first peek” status warrents a one time fee…so the Joe doesn’t get stuck.

Suzi3Q Great point about “charter members”, but If Taylor chose Gray Charles voice and style above the others…than like Gray I believe we have a DUTY to help “make it do, what it do”, however, I do agree that in our purpose we can’t be nasty or elite-ist. It think MonkBots for most part are dutiful with grace and respect.

    capitalist whore…Ka-ching

  13. Gray Charles Says:

I keep waiting for that interview that Shelley promised so that I could answer a bunch o’ questions.

These are all good ones here though and I can share a few thoughts.

I think you’d all be amazed at the current lack of “grand planning” to make this happen. This is an opportunity that exists right now that I was ready to take on. Yes, it’s got some corporate think behind it but the way it developed had more to do with three people than anything else. Without going into detail it looks like this.

    Gray -> Taylor
“We should make this relationship professional – it could benefit both of us.”

    Taylor -> Gray
“What exactly do you have in mind.”

    Gray -> Taylor
“I think it should look like this (insert my proposal here) at least for the next few months.”

    Taylor -> Gray
    “Sounds good, lets do it.”

    Taylor -> His Management Team
“I want to make this happen.”

    Gray -> His Management Team
“I’m here, let’s make this work”

    Managment Team -> J-Records Person
“Figure out how this will work”

    J-Records Person -> Gray
This is where it all happened – the lead person at J-Records totally “got” what I was up to at Gray Charles. She saw what I had built as being a huge head start and basically said. Let’s roll with this RIGHT NOW.

From there to hear has been a flurry of e-mails and posts based on the assumption that we’d get somewhere. A nice quote from her would be “I’ve got a f****** record to launch”.

So here we are, two opportunists just making it work. TPTB (to use an overused phrase) certainly have plans for the final version of but no one wanted to wait a day longer for that to work out. What role, if any, Gray Charles plays in a week? a month? three months? is still in flux

Really, the way I see it – I’m just helping Taylor out. I’ll let the professional and karmic wheel continuing spinning and see where it all ends up.

  14. shelley Says:

Shrew…I like this “grown out of a passion”

Okay…about paying. I agree, DD and Shrew, that we’re getting great stuff from Gray and that means we are to reciprocate. But doesn’t that reciprocation come in the form of BUYING TAYLOR’S PRODUCTS? It’s all marketing…the big guys feed Gray stuff to feed us so that our interest stays piqued and we’ll buy the album Taylor puts out.

Again, I’ve donated to Gray (it’s time I do it again, actually) and I have no problem supporting him.

But to pay for access to stuff that is, basically, put out there to make us want to buy Taylor’s album seems ridiculous to me.

It’s like paying for a commercial.

I’ll buy Taylor’s album. I’ll pay for a ticket to his concert. But to pay for buzz about Taylor seems ridiculous.

But…after typing all of this…I just remembered…we’re not being asked to pay (it was just mentioned by Shrew as a potential development). So maybe this discussion isn’t apropos right now.

I’ll get my panties out of a wad. Sorry.

I’m not a fan of capitalism…can you tell?

  15. shelley Says:

    Gray…great clarification.

It helps to see how the cogs fit together for “two opportunists just making it work.”

The question you posed: “What role, if any, Gray Charles plays in a week? a month? three months? is still in flux.”

Really spins back to Shrews thoughts on the symbiotic nature of fansite and official site.

That’s where I’d like to no more (when more is known).

Do YOU think such a relationship can exist (I guess it already does in a way right now)…but for a pro-longed period of time?

Also…you totally brushed me off about the interview. You want an interview…I can make that happen.

Don’t throw your damn gaunlet down at my feet unless you mean it, baby!

  16. double d Says:

Gray, I’m not really surprised at the “unstructuredness” of the deal. But, I hope you have some sort of commitment, in writing, if this goes much further. I had a “handshake” business deal with a very good friend. Moved my family far away, traveled 2 weeks out of the month with a 3 year old at home, worked my butt off to make the company $$$ with the promise of a “share” (the handshake). Without warning, the company was sold to a bigger company and guess what? DD and Monklex = no share. My friends got rich….we moved to Alabama.

    That, my friends, is capitalism.

  17. nolagirl Says:

Thanks for commenting, Gray. I appreciate the “extra” info. šŸ™‚

  18. Shrewspeaks Says:

Can I just break in here to say…this is candy corn good!(insert addictive snack of choice, if candy corn isn’t working)

I am loving this discussion. and I LOVE the fact that Shelley, gal you are coming from such a different point. MonkBot-ism at work in real time baby.

Gray thanks for the clariifications…You once said that was started as an experiment are you in a different phase of that experiment? Or now is this help truly based on the selfless need to help Taylor…or a bit of both?

Either answer is fine by me…I am a Capitalist whore with a heart of gold type.

  19. bamaborntxbred Says:

Awww…again late to the party. Well, it doesn’t matter what I say now b/c Gray just told us the deal. I could make some stuff up if y’all want…

BTW: I have a glass. It’s empty right now b/c I just drank all the water out of it. It was good water. Refreshing!

Shelley- You are right that it might not be a point worth debating yet…but I don’t want to have to pay to be somebody’s fan either. (Except for concert tix, etc.)

I just got my Monkbot tee’s yesterday too! Love them!

  20. Squeebee Says:

    Wow, great topic, Shelley!

I think, in the end, it all boils down to relationship.

The relationship between Gray and Taylor
The relationship between Taylor and his fans
The relationship between Taylor and TPTB
The relationship between us and Gray

And I think a biggie at this point is the relationship between fans. If Gray is going to make this work, he needs our help as “charter members” (some longer-standing than others šŸ˜‰ ) to welcome new visitors to the site.

I had the same kind of “ownership” thoughts last night, after seeing lots of new “faces” come into chat. As much as we love out little community, it has now changed whether we like it or not. So the challenge is to do our part in preventing conflict and welcoming newcomers.

So to me, it’s not about big business. Gray has not changed, Taylor (I assume) has not changed, nor have we.

  21. Shrewspeaks Says:

  22. Gray Charles Says:

Selfless – hardly. There is a business deal in the works that should be done in about a week.

Right now it’s volunteer work but that volunteerism needs to end pretty quickly from my standpoint.

  23. Shrewspeaks Says:

    Thanks, yet again.

  24. shelley Says:

Squeebee…you’re right…we need to learn to share our toys.

I have NEVER liked sharing my toys.

I’m a selfish brat…and wear that role like a friggin’ CROWN.

Plus, the last time I shared my toys…some greedy chick STOLE them.

  25. Squeebee Says:

Gray…I’m glad there will be some money exchanging hands soon…I was wondering what was going on in that regard.

And BTW…I am lurking in GC chat before I go to work, and there are LOTS of people coming in and out. Amazing what a couple of days (and a website redirection) can do!

  26. bamaborntxbred Says:

This was a well written (for a tired head-achey author) post. But Gray killed it by telling us the truth. Way to go Gray.

  27. shelley Says:

    he did, didn’t he.

i guess i have to come up with a new topic now.

    damn you, gray.

give me a little time, folks. i really need to get some REAL work done.

  28. heyhowyadoin Says:

i think i pretty much understand this relationship….

first and foremost, gray and taylor are friends…..

gray wants to help taylor …..and taylor wants to help gray help taylor….

    it’s a win win…..

at this point, how could gray be expected to do all this for free??

  29. Gray Charles Says:

    What, I killed it?

Umm, ok, I made all that shit up. It isn’t true.

    Back to speculation

  30. bamaborntxbred Says:

Yes! Thanks Gray! I think Gray is really Taylor and he doesn’t really sing, he lip synchs like Milli Va Nilli and that he lent his purple velvet jacket to Rod Stewart so he could wear it on Dancing With The B-List Celebrities. (Thanks to Shell for pointing that out!)

  31. bamaborntxbred Says:

    I’m sorry I can’t be serious today b/c I didn’t get any sleep last night…

  32. shelley Says:

And I think Gray is really a woman.

(I tried to find a pic of Rod wearing Taylor’s jacket but couldn’t. Maybe Rod and TAYLOR are the same person?)

  33. nolagirl Says:

What’s with all this sleep deprivation, gang??

Note to Bama: Did you hear Kidd 2.0 today?

  34. nolagirl Says:

Oh, and Gray, I got a question. So, does the J-Records person we (as in those that fanatically post at your site) are crazy? šŸ˜‰

  35. nolagirl Says:

Oops, I meant to say does the J-Records person THINK we …

  36. bamaborntxbred Says:

Nola- I didn’t hear Kidd 2.0…what did they do? Did you hear the practical joke they played on Al?? Hysterical!!

Shelley- How gross was it seeing Rod’s big furry belly hanging out over his tight jeans? Sick.

I think Gray is an alien.

Nola- Ask my dogs why I’m sleep deprived.

  37. heyhowyadoin Says:

you’re dogs are keeping you awake???

  38. bamaborntxbred Says:

    Yeah- Geriatric Separation Disorder.

My poor 13 year old Jasper won’t let me sleep at night b/c he starts freaking out. He’s going blind and deaf. I love that critter….

    Now, Magoo…he sleeps like a log…

  39. heyhowyadoin Says:

oh man, i feel for you….we lost our sheltie to kidney failure….he was only 9 years old too…

now we have a jack russel named Lili….she’s friggin amazing….

  40. shelley Says:

Yeah…the furry belly was a little upsetting. I agree.

I think Gray gets his jollies from deleting posts.

I talked to Bama’s dogs…I know what she’s sleep deprived. It’s because she takes such good care of her pups that she gets up and turns on the lights when they have nightmares.

  41. heyhowyadoin Says:

    she’s a good dog mom.

    how you doin today shell?

  42. bamaborntxbred Says:

Oh, I’m totally freaking out about “the day that will come”. Magoo is 12…and he’s aging too. I spent $1800 on him this year treating Cushing’s Disease. He’s much better now.

    I’m sorry about your sheltie…

I bet Lili is so much fun! I love Jack Russels!

  43. shelley Says:

    I’m good.

    Thanks for asking.

I’m so glad we have so many dog lovers here.

I gotta admit…the idea of losing my little Sadie Mae is almost too much to bear.

    Sorry about your little sheltie.

  44. nolagirl Says:

Aww, poor Jasper. That is SO sad – I have never heard of dogs doing that. Is he on any kind of pain meds, or is he not really in pain, but just anxious? Poor sweet baby.

Bama, on Kidd 2.0, they called Al’s mom, Dora-Bell. She had no clue, and then was like “Well thanks for calling, honey” and “Kidd” said “Later, beyotch!!” It was so wrong and so funny all at once, I don’t think anyone knew what to do. Al was all “Oh I know you didn’t do that to ma momma” and Kidd was like “We have to call and apologize RIGHT now.” So they tried, and Al’s dad answered (which was funny in itself). But … Dora-Bell was out walking the dogs. It always comes back to the dogs, I’m tellin ya.

  45. bamaborntxbred Says:

Haha! Shelley knows I turn on the tv and the lights to calm Jasper down. (It’s the only thing that works.) Poor Shelley’s had to listen to Magoo barking his face off…I just didn’t realize he was telling her all my secrets!

  46. bamaborntxbred Says:

    Awww…I love Dora-Bell! She’s A-Dora-Bell…hahaha! I’m soooo funny!

I don’t think Jasper’s in pain. I think he freaks out when he wakes up and can’t see. Oh! My baby! I’m gonna start crying….

  47. shelley Says:

Not to break the canine vibe…but this is why we love John Mayer.

  48. nolagirl Says:

OK Bama, let’s stop talking about it too – you might get me all choked up too!

At first Mayer’s costume freaked me out a bit, but you know, it’s kinda a lovable little guy isn’t it?

  49. Jax Says:

I keep going back to the word TRUST.

I TRUST GC – I have been around pretty much from the beginning, he has NEVER given me reason to doubt that trust.

I TRUST TAYLOR -Susieq3c took the words out of my mouth when she reminded everyone of Taylor’s “I will NOT sing this music YOU deal with it.”

I TRUST US – Us? Those that have been around from the beginning .. yes there anxiety that some of us will get lost in the sea of what is to come. But what are we first and foremost? Fans of Taylor Hicks, and a great side of that is that we have made some really good cyber-firends on the ride.

As to the question of “Would I Pay?” Absolutely! I have supported Taylor from his audition. I have not contributed as much as I should have at GC & Gray for that I am sorry. I want a place to find out the latest REAL NEWS, I want a place I can TRUST.

Best of luck to you Gray!

    Horns, Harp & Heart

  50. heyhowyadoin Says:

ha! mayer is a hoot…..i was never a huge fan of his, but i’ve been giving him a listen since he’s been involved with taylor….my daughter LOVES him….i’m kinda diggin his new album….

  51. shelley Says:

Jax…I think you’re right. It is about trust.

    From our end and Taylor’s.

But, I think folks who keep a level head and aren’t afraid to question what’s going on (instead of blindly following) will help maintain the balance between fans being trusting and keeping those in power trustworthy.

When I worked at The Mississippi Press, I used to work with a woman who, whenever a new memo was sent from the publisher about policy changes…she would just shrug her shoulders and say, “Ours is not to wonder why…ours is to do or die.

    That would drive me INSANE!

We MUST ALWAYS question the direction we’re headed and those leading us.

That’s what our country was built on…a system of checks and balances.

What’s my friggin’ problem today? Geesh…calm down, Shelley.

  52. double d Says:

  53. Gray Charles Says:

  54. shelley Says:

Cast off the shackles of ye-ster-day…shoulder to shoulder into the fray.

    Well Done, Gray!

  55. shelley Says:

Gray answered some more specific questions at Ash’s site…for those interested.

  56. Shrewspeaks Says:

Jeesh…I go and do some work and look at all the fun I missed…stupid work

The past few days I have been tossing and turning it in my mind…but I wish I was as passionate about my job as I am about all of this.

Hmmm maybe it is time for a career change. Maybe not…maybe I am just feeling the lack of levaquin…or maybe I am inspired by a simple mission and making it happen.

  57. Shrewspeaks Says:

Okay…I licked the levaquin dust outta the empty script bottle…ShrewsLoopy is back…

    shrew….I’m wid you…

Marketing Company? We just need a few really rich clients AND an airplane (or Monkbot chopper)…unless we can convince you to move to the sunny South…

  59. Shrewspeaks Says:

Get me a man and I would do it.

  60. shelley Says:

Shrew…didn’t we discuss this yesterday…men should be our motivators?

    šŸ˜‰ Just kiddin’.

  61. texan Says:

or we could all move to the hip and cool North and become Shrew minions. Count me in!

  62. double d Says:

    No, no, no, y’all…I can’t do yankee…sawry.

    But I CAN find Shrew a man… ; )

  63. shelley Says:

I’m with ya, DD. My heart would hurt if I left the South.

I’d love to VISIT the North…but I gotta come back home.

  64. Mind Doc Says:

(Awright, Shelley. Let’s see if I can post this time…)

    Very nice post!

I don’t think that there is much to be concerned about. Strong minded people tend to remake the rules if necessary. Remember all of the people who were worried that Taylor would be gobbled up by TPTB and fame — as if creativity only flourishes in isolation and poverty?

Gray will be fine, no matter what happens. He seems to be a feet-lander, and not much of a pushover.

  65. Shrewspeaks Says:

Hey…get me the man…and we’ll make it happen…make some serious $$$ and then we can live where ever we want.

Shelley the man is so I won’t be lonely when I am down there so far from my family…Oh, and someone to clean, take care of me and say “yes, Dear” cause I know none of you will šŸ˜‰

  66. double d Says:

I love me some Mind Doc!!!

    Woo…welcome oh, wise one.

  67. shelley Says:

Hooray for MindDoc…she got the blog to work! šŸ˜‰

Thanks for the comment. Gray is strong minded…like Taylor. I’ll stay focused on that.

    I’m just a worry wart, I guess.

  68. double d Says:

Shrew…trust me…you don’t want a “yes, Dear”. Particularly one from down here. He wouldn’t be “your type”…or any woman’s — if you catch my drift.

Monklex does have a newly divorced Fireman friend…a little older and showing some wear, but…

  69. shelley Says:

  70. Shrewspeaks Says:

    Haahaa…True dat DD

Hey as long as he can stay out late and understand when I am on the internet so much…all is good.

  71. bamaborntxbred Says:

Holy cow. I’m as awed of Mind Doc as I am of Shelley and Gray….Whoa. We are in the presence of blogging greatness…

  72. bamaborntxbred Says:

Hey! Where’s my man? I like setting fires! I mean playing with fire…Or,ummm…catching fire…or…uhh…whatever.

Shelley, did I not just tell you two days ago that I’m always left out of the “setting-up” pools?

  73. shelley Says:

    join the club, boo.

  74. bamaborntxbred Says:

Well, how ’bout I set you up with Taylor if you set me up with John K. or vice versa?

  75. Shrewspeaks Says:

To be fair…I asked to be pimped

    Mind Doc…woah! Nice!

  76. Claire Says:

Anybody got a nice older brother/workmate/friend interested in a long distance relationship, hee hee???

  77. shelley Says:

    I want John AND Taylor.

    You wanna fight?

    Hey Claire!

I only have younger brothers (which didn’t serve me a bit when I needed them to fix me up!). ;(

  78. nolagirl Says:

    Hey Mind Doc! šŸ™‚

Firemen. Well, TWO of them came through my office hallway today doing some kind of check. I mean, couldn’t they WARN us??? Maybe I would have put on some make up or not been slouched in my chair like a slob. (hmmm, although when I slouch, there is the cleavage factor … hmmmm….)

  79. bamaborntxbred Says:

Shelley- How ’bout I give you John Taylor…from Duran Duran for John and Taylor? Sounds good to me!

Claire- If I had any good-looking, decent, single men in my life that weren’t related (no, I don’t have any of those either) I wouldn’t be passing them off to you guys!

  80. Claire Says:

Hey there Shelley!! Younger is ok, btw… they like nice Irish Catholic girls?

And MindDoc? I had me a fireman once…niiiiice. It’s been 4 years since I heard from him. Ya think he’ll call me?

  81. Claire Says:

Oops, sorry nolagirl posted about the fireman….

    Ya think he’ll call me???…..

  82. double d Says:

Shelley just doesn’t want to fix her brothers up with her “crazy internet friends”…she’d have to risk possibly having you all as family…check out her “family quote” above.

    : )

  83. nolagirl Says:

Claire – you are a funny gal! So how long have you been lurking, undoubtely pointing and laughing at our nonsense??? šŸ˜‰

  84. shelley Says:

    okay…who’s lovin’ claire…raise your hand!

    hand raised high

  85. shelley Says:

oh…i was NEVER a john taylor fan.

i LURVED me some Simon LeBon…had his poster over my bed…I kid you not…I still have the poster.

  86. Claire Says:

nola – I’ve lurked occasionally since the old days of GC. I just never posted. I nearly submitted a Bible of a post during the whole “I’m so fat….” debate a couple of days back but chickened out. btw, I was really impressed with how you guys laid yourselves bare during that discussion. I wasn’t brave enough. As a girl who could lose 20lbs without missing them, I understand.

“Pointing and laughing”? Well, we do plenty of that at the Boogie, nola!! In a good way, of course.

Simon le Bon??? Suck in those cheeks, boy!! (He does that, y’know..)

    Now, about Shelley’s brothers….

  87. bamaborntxbred Says:

    Hand raised!!

Me likey Claire! And her “friends”.

  88. Mind Doc Says:

Ack! Being sucked back into the blogverse (fingers clutching at the furniture as I am swept out). Yikes — and I finally got caught up on my work!

nice to see you all. I will be on the look out for males. I am a fab matchmaker. Rowan has prohibited me from setting her up, but I am studiously ignoring her.

Firefighters … sigh. Firefighters who cook and clean … long sigh.

(snaps awake — realizing that she is in a fantasy world)

  89. nolagirl Says:

Well glad you have been enjoying our shenanigans, Claire! And glad you posted!

    About Shelley’s brothers .. ummm, I’m pretty sure they’re all taken and/or 16 years old. šŸ˜‰

(I would offer my brothers, but they are taken too, and plus, I wouldn’t do that to any of you! Ha!)

  90. shelley Says:

well…i’ve been waiting for the right moment to tell y’all…and it feels like i’m keeping something from you now…so…

only one of my brothers is taken (Beau..he’s married)

    Ben is now eligible.

    Coop is eligible…but he’s only a jailbaity 15.

  91. bamaborntxbred Says:

Tell Coop to give me a call in 3 years…I’ll be 37 then.

    Hello Ashton & Demi!

  92. Shrewspeaks Says:

Mind Doc have you met Claire (and her friends)?

Kidding…I nearly spit DR Pepper out on my screen when I saw “Papa can you hear me?”

  93. Shrewspeaks Says:

  94. Claire Says:

Oh well, back to fantasising about Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp (I would say “…and Taylor Hicks”, but that would somehow be wrong. Like having a crush on your cousin, or something). Maybe I’m just a big ole’ MotherHen at heart.

Now, Keanu?? He, imo, is what Willis was talkin’ ‘BOUT!!

Hey, Coop – how YOU doin’? (I kid – just call me Mrs. LeTourneau, LOL…)

  95. Shrewspeaks Says:

Okay that was crass…sorry Shelley..I really didn’t mean to objectify your brother in that cheap and tawdry way. *hangs head in shame*

  96. shelley Says:

Just to let folks know…Coop reads the site (hey sweetie peach)…so…let’s not freak the kid out too much. šŸ˜‰

  97. Claire Says:

    Aw, sorry Shelley…

Cooper, if you’re reading, you have nothing to fear from me. I’m (almost) old enough to be your mother, and hey, I live in Ireland, so if you need any help with your Geography homework, Shelley has my e-mail, ‘kay?

“Won’t somebody PLEASE think of the children???”” Good old Maud Flanders, Lord rest her…

  98. shelley Says:

    šŸ˜‰ that was cool, Claire.

hey, claire…do i have your e-mail? send it to me again…just in case.

    also…are you REALLY in Ireland?

  99. Claire Says:

Actually, Shelley DOESN’T have my e-mail, LOL….send up a smoke signal.

  100. Claire Says:

Yes Shelley, I’m really in Ireland. it’s 9.30 pm here. What’s your e-mail? I’ll send you mine back…

  101. shelley Says:

i’m VERY excited that you’re in Ireland…that is da coolest! šŸ˜‰

  102. nolagirl Says:

Didn’t mean to bring up your brothers and their availiablity and cause weirdness for you. I am sure it’s a sensitive subject… and I had no idea.

Back to our regularly scheduled program …

  103. shelley Says:

    nola…you ding dong…i ain’t upset. šŸ˜‰ you didn’t do anything wrong.

  104. double d Says:

    Shrew started it all.

  105. nolagirl Says:

I know you’re not upset! I was just sayin’ …

  106. shelley Says:

i think the levequin started it all.

  107. double d Says:

hey shelley — I love ya!

  108. Claire Says:

What the feck is a levequin???

  109. bamaborntxbred Says:

Shelley- no worries. Coop would hate me on spec b/c I talk in movies…

  110. Shrewspeaks Says:

    Ah..don’t speak ill of Levaquin!

Claire, I was sick and the doctor put me on heavy duty antibotic that had amoungst it’s side effects to make me one very loopy shrewby!

And I did NOT start it…*whistles looks innocent*

    Bama did!

She left for the day right?

  111. shelley Says:

  112. bamaborntxbred Says:

    Hi Shrew….

  113. Claire Says:

    *bewildered* I still don’t know who/what a levequin/levaquin is, though….

  114. bamaborntxbred Says:

    I think GRAY started it!!

  115. shelley Says:

    correction, bama

  116. bamaborntxbred Says:

Shrew keeps trying to blame the “L” for her loopiness when we all know that she comes by it naturally.

  117. bamaborntxbred Says:

    Taylor Hicks (jump)started my heart…

  118. shelley Says:

bama…why am i humming loverboy songs now.

you wanna piece of heart…come on start from the start….you wanna be in the show…come on baby let’s goooo.

  119. Claire Says:

    “Blame Canada…”!!!

Ooohhhhhh…..Levequin is a DRUG! Clear as mud.

  120. shelley Says:

and to think…this post started out so thought-provoking and deep.

  121. nolagirl Says:

It’s 4:30/5:30/I don’t know when in Ireland – of course this thread has gone to shit!

  122. double d Says:

who wins the prize of the day…we need a fix.

  123. bamaborntxbred Says:

That is so funny that you are singing Blame Canada, Claire! I was just singing that earlier today!

Shelley- Do you still require my thesis paper, “Journey: Dont’ Stop Believing”?

  124. bamaborntxbred Says:

  125. Claire Says:

You’re right, Shelley. Shot to shit. Ah, the beauty of the blog. And on that note, I bid y’all good night. Getting up at 6am for work is a pain in the rear.

nola…it’s 10.30 here. I’m such a nerd, going to bed at 10.30. I used to laugh at people like me. *sigh* Now I AM people like me!

    Growing up sucks AND blows.

  126. double d Says:

    Ooooh, Steve Perry?

  127. bamaborntxbred Says:

    Love Steve Perry DD…

    Good night Claire-y Pooh!

  128. Claire Says:

    Claire-y Pooh?

    them’s fightin’ words!!

    ‘Nite Bama.

  129. shelley Says:

    yes, bama…i’m expecting the thesis.

    i wasn’t kidding.

    Official Prize of the Day

Claire…for the “Papa can you hear me crack”

  130. Shrewspeaks Says:

Claire’s Papa should get the POD

    Who can hate Journey?

    *blushes* Heh, Hey Bama!

  131. Shrewspeaks Says:

Story of my life…2 seconds to late!

  132. bamaborntxbred Says:

Well, Shrew…I can forgive you since I am so wonderfully generous and forgiving. It’s good to be me…

    Thesis in the works…

  133. Claire Says:

Hee hee! I hit F5 one last time before logging off, and I get the Prize of the Day!!! Thanks Shelley. I’d like to thank my Papa, my Mama, Sally Field – We really love ya, Sally – the academy, Denzel – love you, man – Mrs. Huffnagle my primary school teacher for believing in me and telling me to never give up on my dreams *sob*

    oh yeah, thanks shelley.

Now, seriously – Goodnight all, it’s been fun!

  134. nolagirl Says:

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I am just shy of 25, and I have been going to bed at freaking 10:00!! Ugh, I am such an old lady now. But … the reason behind it is good I suppose – I have been getting up around 5ish to walk, so my midnight-plus bedtimes didn’t work out well with that regimen. Monkbots need their beauty sleep – duh!

    Good night!

  135. Squee Says:

Okay, allaya….enough of tha Canada blaming. WE. HAVE. HAD. ENOUGH. of the Canada blaming already!

    Squee the Canucklehead

  136. Mind Doc Says:

(I like Steve Perry — inexplicable, yes.)

  137. Squeebee Says:

Mind Doc…good to see ya over here too!

  138. Claire Says:

“Crazy internet friends”, eh?, Well, the fifteen people living in my head tell me I’m fine. So nyah nyah, DD. šŸ™‚

    Papa can you hear meeeeee?…

  139. Mind Doc Says:

I am almost a floozy, I am getting around so much. Not one, but two blogs!!

  140. DaniCalifornia Says:

Seriously, I don’t go on the computer for 48 hours and it’s like 3 years have passed in cyberland on this site and on GC’s. I read about half of the comments. (The first chunk.)

Shelley, I don’t know if you were being serious or not, but I think that Gray is a woman too. I don’t think I’ve read any specific post where Gray indicates if they’re a guy or a girl. Maybe I missed it though, so I could be wrong. And I think most people assume that Gray is a man by his word use, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Gray is a female. Thoughts?

  141. shelley Says:

    DaniCalifornia…I was kidding.

    Gray is definitely a guy.
